The Member for Dubbo, Troy Grant, has confirmed the NSW Government has allocated almost $200 million for five city-shaping projects.
Mr Grant said planning for the upgrade of the Newell Highway and Mitchell Highway intersection will involve upgrading the intersection to support safe movement of high productivity vehicles up to 36.5 metres long.
“The intersection will be upgraded to signals and will reduce congestion and travel times for local and highway traffic,” Mr Grant said.
“The $14 million project to upgrade the intersection of Cobra and Fitzroy streets in Dubbo will provide additional lanes for the intersection approach and departure, in order to improve traffic flow and improve road user safety.
“Planning is under way with work to start in 2019 and be completed by early 2020, weather permitting.”
Mr Grant said the $11 million project to upgrade the existing Newell Highway in West Dubbo will involve upgrading the highway from Golf Links Creek about 100 metres south of Baird Street.
“This will provide improved travel times and safety for all motorists as well as reduce future maintenance costs and traffic noise for local residents and businesses,” Mr Grant said.
“Work will be carried out in three stages, commencing with utility relocation work and two stages of road work. The first roadwork stage is expected to start in August this year and be completed in October, with the second stage to be carried out from August to October 2019.”
Mr Grant said the $10 million strengthening work to be carried out on the LH Ford Bridge will involve repair and replacement of bridge parts to extend the life of the iconic bridge.
“The tender for this work is expected to be advertised next month with work to start towards the end of the year, with completion by mid-2019.”
Mr Grant said the concept design and Review of Environmental Factors (REF) for the new Dubbo Bridge across the Macquarie River, being planned for the River Street crossing has commenced and is expected to be put on display mid-2019.
“The bridge will improve freight efficiency on the Newell Highway, reduce traffic congestion and provide an alternative route during flooding events and maintenance work on existing bridges.
“The project provides a third river crossing in Dubbo and will also improve access to future development in west Dubbo.
